RCIA

The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults is a process for unbaptized adults who are interested in becoming Catholic and for those baptized Christians who seek full communion with the Catholic Church through the Sacraments of Eucharist and Confirmation.
 

RCIC

The Rite of Christian Initiation for Children is the same curriculum as the RCIA program but is structured for children who are over the age of 7 and were not baptized.

Application

The first step to take when arranging a baptism is to fill an application for baptism. This can be done by coming into the Faith Formation office Tuesdays thru Fridays between the hours of 9:00 am and 1:00 pm.

Sponsors (Godparents)

Godparents must meet the requirements set by the Archdiocese of Santa Fe Affidavit of eligibility for Baptism sponsor, or a letter from their parish (the parish they are currently registered in) stating they meet the requirements shown. Sponsors must be Baptized, have made both First Holy Communion and Confirmation, Married in the Catholic Church (if married), and registered and active in a parish at least 3 months.

*One sponsor, male or female is sufficient: but there may be two, One of each sex (Canon 873)

 

Preparation class

Parents and Godparents are required to complete a baptismal preparation class before baptism. The preparation class takes place the first Saturday of every month from 1pm-3pm in the Parish Hall. Parents ans sponsors may attend the class in another parish if it is more convenient. Arrangements must be made with that parish.

Birth Certificate

If the parents of the child/adult are NOT married a copy of the child's birth certificate, confirmation of birth registry or paternity papers signed at hospital must be submitted with the required paperwork.

Deadlines

All paperwork must be completed by the deadline set by the Faith Formation office.

General Information

Baptisms for RCIA and RCIC candidates will take place at the Easter Vigil Mass, which is the Saturday before Easter.

*If you have a photo of the child/adult to be Baptized that you wish to be printed on the baptismal certificate, bring it in to the office with the required paperwork or email it to ologoffice@yahoo.com
